Fake it...

I couldn't resist grabbing a metre of this fabric.  It's very Marimekko but only $15 a metre at Spotlight!  I had planned to make cushion covers but the colours just won't match my lounge suite which is chocolate brown, so I'm going to stitch the sides and use it as a tablecloth instead.  What do you think?

  1. very cool, i have seen that print as cushions, like real big ones(european size) but i like it as a tablecloth better!

  4. I love it, personally I think the colors would look fine with brown especially as the first comment suggest nice big cushions, and will add some umph to the brown.

  5. Gorgeous. If you've got a bit left over you could make cushions with that fabric as a panel and a colour that matches your lounge suite as the rest. It's going to look fabulous as a table cloth!

  6. I love that fabric! Is it just light weight or a heavier home decor weight? I think it would look great with your lounge suite. It looks good against the brown of your dining chairs. You could also make a piece of wall art out of it by covering a canvas with it.

  7. what gorgeous fabric!! Sometimes Spotlight has some lovely surprises. I love the idea of the table cloth and would probably use it as couch cushions too.... ooo love the suggestion of covering a canvas with it!!!

  8. Hey guys - thanks for all your comments. It is a fairly light weight cotton from the quilting section of Spotlight. I love the idea of covering a canvas and making big puffy cushions. I only bought a metre but now I'm wishing I had bought more instead of all the other fabric I bought - I spent far too much but they had 20% off everything yesterday!

  9. wow that's almost identical, spotlight is so cheeky. I wonder how they are getting away with it?

  10. Ms Cinti - it's so similar but I guess it's only the quality that isn't as great but for $15m it's one of the cheaper quilting fabrics. Very cheeky but there are alot of people who have no idea about Marimekko including the ladies working in Spotlight!

  11. Hi Kelly - I just found you via Kiwi Mummy Blogs - and about 30min earlier finished writing a post about finding this fabric at Spotlight too! Funny. I made a dress for my daughter with mine. No idea how they get away with it, but I love it! Your cushions look fantastic!
