Blog identity crisis (again!) plus a giveaway...

It seems that when I'm reading blogs they all tend to have a theme.  There are parenting blogs, craft blogs, quilting blogs, baking blogs, and the list goes on.  I have no idea where my blog fits - it's almost like a puzzle all mixed up in it's box just waiting to be assembled.

I started this blog as Mummy Diaries back in 2008.  This year I changed it to Reclaiming Me, life had become so involved in raising my little boy that I had forgotten who I was.  No, well that's not entirely true.  I knew who I was but I knew I wasn't looking after myself as well as I could.  I needed to take time for myself and that's when I went back to sewing.  Sewing was my 'time out' and looking back I've made quite a few things.

Now I feel like I need a change from Reclaiming Me.  I temporarily renamed this blog Humble Stitches but the more I see it, the more I dislike it.  It certainly doesn't reflect me.  So for now it remains unnamed.

So here's what I'm going to ask of you.  I will be giving away two fabric packs - one vintage and one new.  But you're going to have to work for it!  I need a name for my blog so I thought I would pick my favourite two names to receive their choice of pack. (ie my favourite will get first pick and my second favourite will get what the first doesn't pick).  I'm going to leave this open for two weeks so you have time to think of something really great.

Four fat quarters all approx 50x55cm

or

5 pieces of vintage goodness
Sizes as follows (from top to bottom)
54cm x 56cm
40cm x 21cm (x2)
35cm x 64cm
56cm x 66cm

So leave your entry below and state whether you want to go vintage or new.  If your email is not linked to your profile, don't forget to leave that also.  You can enter more than once if you think of more names, just remember I will be picking my favourites not drawing random names :)  Good Luck

Entries close 4th August 2010 and winners decided by 6th August at the latest

PS- Don't forget if you want me to do a write up about your blog or a blog you love, leave a link here.  I can't wait to write about Dottie Angel - she has such a pretty blog!

Will come back with more if I think of them :)

P.S, love the colour of your background :)

  3. OKay - So I'd like to say I know how you feel about the overall 'theme' of your blog and I have to say I'm the same but I've decided I'm happy to be a GP and not a specialist - if you know what I mean!! Great giveaway I will definitely have a think for you.

My first suggestion is 'Personality Collection' to reflect your personailty and ability, love of vintage, quilting, being a mama etc
makeitgiveit(at)gmail(dot)com I love both the options I'd be THRILLED with either!

  7. i think of ur blog as a bit of everything that im interested in or would like to be so im thinking...." all-embracing" or
"the whole caboodle" or "the whole shabang" (the last two are what i say instead of saying "everything")......lovin that owl material...

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can't say that I have any good ideas for a blog name but just wanted to say I love the fabric. I have the owl one. I made it into a pillow cover and a tote for Fi :)

  9. How about... " A stitch in Time" - represents your sewing, as well as your love of vintage stuff.

Or... "Stepping Forward" - sort of the move-on from Reclaiming Me (you're reclaimed, so now you're stepping forward, sort of thing...)

Or... "The Cozy Cottage" - like a wee craft cottage type theme? But by not saying "craft", you can then post recipes, etc. too.

Or... "And On Another Note..." or "And In Other News..." - then you can be as random as you like!

Or... "Little House in the 'Burbs" - going on the craft cottage theme again.

That'll do from me for no,w, but I'll keep thinking!

  10. Is 'The Patchwork Life' appropriate? Just see you as stitching the various elements of your life together in your blog? Hxx

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm gonna go with Pineapple Lumps.

They are sweet (like you) & there's this idea of a whole lot of good stuff (your creations) being lumped together in one tasty piece & covered in yummy chocolate (your blog).

    :-)

P.S. I'm pregnant. I can only think about food and now that I've typed that I'm craving a chocolate fish. :-)

  12. LOL Cadi that's a good one!

I like foodie named blogs, one lady I follow is called rasberry pancakes.. her blog is a photo blog.

I suck at coming up with names, so I used a song title for mine.

And don't worry about it not following a theme, your blog is there for you to post what you want! Mine is a great example of how to post loads of different things haha.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I really like the new fat quarters!
    How about "Life, ETC..."

    ReplyDelete
  14. You guys are great! So many names already - I can see that after two weeks I'm going to have a tough decision on my hands! Thanks everyone and keep them coming!

  15. "Creativity Knocks" I just came up with for ya. HEY:) I am having the same problem with naming mine too so I have not changed it yet. Then again I do like mine. From. time. to. time!

  18. I've had several different blogs with different names. My first blog was "Somebody's Mum" which I changed to "Quilting Mum" and now is "Works in Progress" I do think it's great to reassess where you're at and change to suit. Jolly hard to choose though. Everybody has such great names for you. But I really want to win that fabric (vintage!) ummmm....
    "Sew and So..."

  19. Wow - look at all of these great suggestions!!

I've been having a think all morning but can't come up with "the one". I really wanted to include thrifting, sewing and crafting because, to me, that is what you are all about!

Here is a list of what I have so far for you...
    Thrifty Stitches / Stitching
    Thrifty Crafty Stitchy
Crafty, Thrifty Stitcher (The first two could be swapped around if you liked the sound of it better).

But I'm not 100% happy with them so I'm going to keep thinking!!

Names are so hard...I wanted to change my blog name, too, but the only new name I loved DH poo, poo-ed as "lame".

  29. Just stealing from your menu:
    Make Play Bake

(hmmm, I think I like my own blog title a little too much!). I like both prizes...you shouldn't play favourites with fabric, they all have their place.

  30. Hmmm, Sew Sweetly. Seamingly Soulful. Hemming and Hawing. Leaving You In Stitches. Sew Another Day Goes By. Sew Much To Do.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far - keep it up and good luck everyone :)

  38. I was just watching Food TV and someone said "Bon appetit" and it got me to thinking along those lines, so how about "Bon Couture" (taking on the sewing theme, rather than the eating theme!).

  39. I was thinking;

    It's Sew Me!

  42. Ok, I have been seriously thinking about this for days now, and so far I haven't come up with much, but one idea I had was "A pocketful of sunshine", which apparently is a song (I just googled it to see if it's already taken). I'm working on a few more ideas, but some of the ones already suggested sound great.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "fabric is my life!"

that is a name i would use
    thanks!

  44. Kelly's Collectives or The Thrifting Extravaganza.

I hope I win, I'd love either set but those fat quarters really catch my eye! I'd love to make some creations with them.

  45. I thought of a name when I saw another blogger creating delightful banana softies and one of these was pink. As soon as I saw the colour of your blog it reminded me of it again...'One Pink Banana'

I believe in random or very losely connected names... they don't have to refect what the blog is about necessarily... I love the quirkier random names, and those that give a twist on a theme. Mine are 'the handmade amoeba'... my company is called Amoeba Projects so I used the amoeba element, then for a product line I associated Plondlife and Plankton. For my emigration blog I picked Falling Round the Planet to reflect the down under theme, and finally I have a blog in waiting which will hold foodie things called 'Screaming Peas' ... so slightly related, quite mad, and hopefully eye catching!! Good luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. How about Thus and Sew. A little word play on the phrase "thus and so"

    ReplyDelete
  47. Pieces of Me?
    Pieces of Kelly?
or is that a bit icky.... yeah it is.
ok I got nothing. Don't use the word Rambling - it's not half as original as I thought it was. I need a new name too.. one day soon.

I read about 17 good suggestions and that was just in the first 17 comments. Then I stopped reading - anyway. Love your blog and especially love that you linked to my triplets post. glad I made you laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. oooo - I read some more of the entries - I love running with scissors!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ha, there are some great names there! I like "Pieces of Me" and "Running with Scissors"

"Pieces of Me" is general and cool and refined. Running with Scissors" is just crazy - and different! You would really stand out with a name like that, my friend.

  56. I've been thinking about this for a while, so far I've come up with 'Whole Sum' because it seems like you're looking for a title that will sum up the whole of who you are- not just mummying, not just sewing, but what's happening with you now and in the future.

The first thing I notice about your blog is all the category pages at the top, and the blog has a holistic feel if you know what I mean? Good luck with your choices, it's a long list!

    ReplyDelete
  57. You have had such good suggestions already. I have to say that I really like Reclaiming Me - I really knew what you meant when I first read the name. However, if you are now 'reclaimed' I understand the wish for a new name - now I just have to think of one to enter your lovely giveaway ............... and I just, just can't thnk of one. Will hopefully think of one overnight and get in before the close!
